Our Projects & Services
We started with a Shopping and Prescription delivery service.
As we recognised the need for additional services, we were quick to respond and have added these as we have progressed. We are flexible and will deal with any issue that comes through our Helpline. Where we cannot help, we will refer people to an appropriate, relevant service. |
HOSPITAL TRANSPORT Biggar Community Action Group (BCAG) has been liaising with Getting Better Together, Shotts (GBT), who provide hospital transport for the whole of Lanarkshire and we have agreed a referral process for eligible residents of Biggar. The initial referral will come from BCAG, but for subsequent requests, a resident can contact GBT direct. For detailed information, CLICK HERE CALL THE BCAG HELPLINE: 07376 318724 If the phone is unmanned, please leave a message and someone will call you back. |

Bored? Anxious? Lonely? Or just want to chat? Then phone our Listening Ear Helpline. It can be a worrying and anxious time for many. If you have concerns or questions you can call this number and we will do our best to answer you or direct you to organisations who can help you. We have carefully selected volunteers providing this confidential service. |
During the pandemic, it became evident that some people who were shielding or self-isolating, were missing out on a hot meal every day, so we started our Hot Meals service.
Robert Allen and the staff from the Elphinstone hotel have been preparing nourishing meals, twice a week, for elderly and vulnerable people and these are being delivered by a dedicated team of volunteers. The meals have been very well received and the volunteers have enjoyed chatting to the recipients about their lockdown experience. This service will continue as long as there is a need in the community and we are able to procure funding. |

Boxes of Kindness
Members of WomanKind Clydesdale, a local organisation whose members are involved with BCAG, have been making up boxes of kindness and distributing them to people in the community who may feel isolated and needing a bit of cheer! The boxes have been decorated by local children and both Brownlies and the Orchard have been generous in providing contents.
We have received lots of messages of thanks and stories of how this small act of kindness has made people’s day. One recipient reported that receiving the gift cheered her up so much that she was able to take a walk outside for the first time in many weeks. Thank you to WomanKind Clydesdale for this fantastic gesture! You are changing peoples’ lives. |
Social History Project
We are working on putting together a social history of Biggar during lockdown
We have been conducting a series of interviews with people of all ages, of different life styles and occupations, in all parts of the town. These interviews have been carried out either by telephone, online or, if possible, face–to-face. Local photographer, Helen Barrington, has been taking photos of our interviewees and also photos of lockdown life in and around Biggar. We plan to hold some form of exhibition, when the situation allows. |
