Household restrictions and 10pm closing time for hospitality settings. Further measures to protect the population from the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) have been announced by the First Minister today (Tuesday) as Scotland faces an upsurge in cases. The new restrictions focus on no household visits and a 10pm closing time for all hospitality settings. First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said today that this action is necessary in order to prevent a resurgence in community transmission of the virus and the potential for a rapid return to the pressures the NHS experienced earlier in the year. Measures include: Inside people’s homes (from tomorrow, Wednesday 23 2020)
Action - and adherence to restrictions - is needed now to safeguard lives, protect from infection and bring the R number down below one. The First Minister said: “It is worth stressing that because of the collective sacrifices we all made to drive infection levels down over the summer, the growth in cases is from a low base and – at this stage – far less rapid than in March. I want to thank the people of Scotland for their cooperation, forbearance and the sacrifices they have made – but these measures are essential in ensuring we do not let this virus get out of control again. “While these measures are tough, we believe they can make a significant difference while keeping our schools, public services and as many businesses open as far as possible. “Early data suggests that restrictions currently in place in west central Scotland are starting to slow the increase of cases. So by extending household restrictions nationwide now, in an early and preventative way, we hope it will help to bring the R number down and the virus back under control. For further clarification, you can read the full details of the latest restrictions which have been introduced in Lanarkshire, by following this link. It explains in more detail what you can and cannot do including information about extended households, care homes etc. https://www.gov.scot/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-local-measures/pages/south-lanarkshire/ Tougher restrictions on home visits have been extended to Lanarkshire.
People living in the area will not be able to meet other households indoors from midnight on Friday 11th September.. Similar measures are already in place in Glasgow, East and West Dunbartonshire, Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire. The extension to North and South Lanarkshire means the restrictions now cover more than 1.75 million people in the west of Scotland. First Minister Nicola Sturgeon had earlier said that the number of new cases in the region was "causing some particular concern" A total of 205 positive cases of Covid-19 have been identified by Test and Protect in Lanarkshire in the past week. Ms Sturgeon said: "It is clearly regrettable that these restrictions need to be extended to people living in Lanarkshire. I understand that this will not be welcome news for people living in these areas, especially ahead of the weekend, but we must act now to protect people and get more control over the virus in the area." The restrictions will be reviewed next Friday, 18th September, while those affecting the five other council areas will be reviewed on Monday. More than 1.1 million people in the west of Scotland were already covered by the home visit restrictions. North and South Lanarkshire have a combined population of more than 661,000 people. People living in the areas should also not visit someone else's home, NO MATTER WHERE IT IS - although those in extended households can continue to meet indoors. People from different households can continue to meet outdoors, and in pubs and restaurants, as long as they follow the guidance. Only essential indoor visits will be allowed in hospitals and care homes, although outdoor visits to care homes will still be permitted. No more than six people from two different households are allowed to gather together, although children under the age of 12 do not count towards the total. Ms Sturgeon told her daily briefing on Friday that she had asked for advice on whether it would be possible to allow children from more than two households to meet in some circumstances - for example at birthday parties. She said she hoped this could be clarified in the coming days. The planned opening of theatres, live music venues and indoor soft play centres, which had been due to happen next Monday, has also been delayed until at least 5 October. From Monday 14 September:
There will be a further review on 1 October before a decision is taken on when non-essential offices and call centres can resume operations. We have been asked to circulate this information from NHS Lanarkshire:
NHS Lanarkshire would like to help reinforce the golden rules of F.A.C.T.S to try and make sure we stop people spreading and getting Coronavirus, and keep us out of another lockdown. We understand that this is a challenging time but together we can all play our part to help Lanarkshire. The message in a nutshell is:
