Biggar Health Centre has asked us to distribute this important message.
(Please note that these are the words of Biggar Health Centre and not BCAG) "The health centre have informed us that they are experiencing a particularly high number of calls to ask about the flu vaccination programme this year and that a lot of people are phoning in quite a distressed state. This has been an extremely difficult year for everybody and we all know that a lot of people’s mental health has suffered through the pandemic and this is coming out in the nature of some of these calls." "The health centre is not actually responsible for the flu vaccination this programme this year and it has no control over it. It is the responsibility of the health board, although you may find some staff who are administering the vaccine (and hence employed by the health board) are also employed separately by the health centre." "The letter that has been sent out by the health board is often giving people an appointment for vaccination THE NEXT DAY even though you may not be able to attend that appointment at such short notice. The health centre has also been told by patients that not all members of the same household are being allocated consecutive appointments let alone appointments on the same day. This is completely out of the control of the health centre. In the letter you are told to call a central number to change your appointment but unfortunately people are having great difficulty getting through to this number and are then calling the health centre in distress. Unfortunately the health centre IS NOT ABLE TO OFFER ANY APPOINTMENTS as it is not in their control. So please do not call the health centre in this situation as it stops the health centre being able to deal with routine work." "Please be patient, we understand that everyone who is entitled to a flu vaccine will get one although maybe not as soon as they might wish. The demand for the vaccine this year is exceptionally high and a lot more people than ever before are entitled to it. Please also remember to be polite when dealing with health workers, they, like everyone else this year, are having a very tough year and are working extremely hard to meet the health demands of the community in this constantly changing environment and should be treated with the same respect that you will expect to receive from them." |
